What is required to work in a child care program?

Forty (40) hours of state-mandated training classes are required to become a child care provider for a child care center. The classes are separated into two parts:

  • Part 1 – 30 hours of introductory training.
  • Part 2 – 10 hours of specialized training.

How can I become a family child care home?

To be a family/home child care provider, you need to complete 30 hours of state-mandated training classes. To learn more about state training and credentialing requirements, click here.

Where can I take the courses?

Classes are available in person or online. To register for classes on the Child Care Training Portal, click here.

Are there fees for taking classes and how much are they?

Yes, instructor-led fees are $195 for Part 1 and $35 to $55 for Part 2. Online courses are $10 each. Payments can be made with a credit card or debit card on the Child Care Training Portal.

Other payment methods:

  • Deliver money order to 4C office at 3500 W. Colonial Drive in Orlando, Florida.
  • Make a payment online at paypal.com. Send to payment@4cflorida.org and include student ID and what is being paid for.
  • Mail money order: Community Coordinated Care for Children, Inc. (4C), Attention: Education Department, 3500 W. Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32808.

How long does it take to complete the classes?

The time it takes to complete classes varies for each student.

Are exams given immediately after each class?

After completing a class, a student must register to take an exam, which will be given in person at a different time and location. Students do not need to complete the class to register for the exams. They can register and pay for the class and continue with the exam registration.

How do I register for an exam?

Login to the Child Care Training Portal and select “Competency Exam Enroll/Unenroll” on the Personal Menu or call the Child Care Training Information Center at 1-888-353-2842.

Is there a fee for exams and how much?

Yes, the cost of each exam is $1 per clock-hour based on the course. For example, the cost of taking an exam for a 10-hour course would be $10.

When will I receive my exam results?

Results will be available on your online transcript within two weeks after completing and paying for your exam. If you passed the exam, there will be a certificate number. If you did not pass, there will be a status button displayed.

How do I receive my certificates?

Go online to the Child Care Training Portal to print your certificates. If you don’t have a computer, 4C will print your certificate or pass/fail status of an exam for a fee of $7 in the form of a money order.

May I cancel an exam before taking it?

Yes, an exam must be canceled no less than seven (7) calendar days prior to your selected exam session date.

Does 4C help students find jobs with providers?

The Agency offers classes but does not assist students in finding employment with child care providers.

Where are the training hours recorded?

The hours are recorded on your transcript online. Login to the Child Care Training Portal and select “My Student Information and Transcript” on the Personal Menu.
