Free Tax Return Preparation for Qualifying Taxpayers

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program has offered free basic federal income tax help for more than 50 years. It helps individuals earning $67,000 or less as well as people with disabilities and those who have limited English skills.

Non-profit organizations run the program, and the IRS checks and certifies the volunteers. The organization trains volunteers to follow IRS rules. This keeps taxpayer information safe and private. Each return prepared at VITA sites undergoes a quality review process. Each year, thousands of volunteers help prepare millions of tax returns.
